Invitation: Me.

Thank you for applying to the Fatemarked Facility on behalf of your chosen character. Please answer the following questions, which will allow us to determine whether they are suitable candidates. Be honest and thorough.

1. Character Name: Sarah harding

2. Canon/Series:

The Lost World by Michael Crichton

Wiki link about Sarah Harding, see "Novel canon".

3. Age: 34

4. Species: Human

5. Role: Sentinel

6. Why do you think your character is a good candidate for the Fatemarked setting?

Sarah is tough as nails, smart, and adaptable. She has been through so many disasters and adventures simply due to her line of work, and has taken on the responsibility of caretaker and leader, that she would be perfect for this setting.

7. What skills does your character have which might make them a good Sentinel?

In the novel, Sarah is shown to be the sort of person who will stop at nothing to protect others. She's a dominant personality, a voice of reason in the chaos, who knows how to fight and survive - and to keep others alive while she's doing it. She's skilled in shooting, wilderness survival, and animal behaviorism (and that translates rather well to human behaviorism for her.) She'll need to brush up on combat and espionage with the classes provided by the facility, but she could ostensibly teach the things she does know if she isn't assigned a Fatemarked.

8. What traits, abilities, or qualities does your character have which might be the reason they are Fatemarked? (Skip if Sentinel.)

9. How do you think your character will react to their new role in life?

Of course, Sarah will be upset about being abducted, no matter what the reason. As dedicated as she is to her profession, she won't like being away from it for long. However, she is the type to make the best of a bad situation, and practicality will dictate that there's more sense in doing what's expected than in bucking the system, particularly when lives are at stake. In time, she may even come to believe in the work that the Facility is doing.

10. What are some of your character's strengths?

Strengths: Survival Instinct, Dedicated Teacher, Strong Leader

Sarah is nothing short of a survivor, both physically and psychologically. In the brief glimpses we have of her past, we see that she clawed her way up out of poverty and neglect to become the foremost expert on African predators. She once survived alone in the savannah with a broken leg and nothing but rocks to protect her - and again, trapped on an island full of dinosaurs. Not only this, but she's a leader. She pushes others to survive and doesn't tolerate cowardice, going so far as to literally beat others into submission.

She's also kind, with a sly sense of humor, and a fondness for kids and teenagers. At heart, she's a teacher and mentor, and this could translate very well for her role as a sentinel.

11. What are some of your character's weaknesses?

Weaknesses: Lacking Teamwork Skills, Vengeful, Impatient, Lacking Sympathy (Circumstantial)

Sarah has had to rely only on herself for so long that she doesn't trust others to be able to handle difficult situations. This could make her argumentative in a situation where she has to share leadership. When it comes to a situation which requires thinking on her feet, or which needs immediate action, she can be impatient and pushy with others - and thus come across as an asshole. She doesn't really consider the emotional needs of others when lives are on the line.

She also has a self-righteous, vengeful streak. If someone does her harm, they can expect her to retaliate - pretty remorselessly, at that.

12. Does your character have any health problems we should know about?

None.

13. Describe a single important event in your character's history.

On Isla Sorna, upon discovering that one of the men in her group had stepped on the leg of an infant t-rex, another member of her own group – Eddie Carr – brought said infant back to the research trailers the engineer Jack Thorne had built. Against Sarah’s better judgment, she helped make a splint for the baby’s broken leg. However, the adult tyrannosaurs tracked the infant and subsequently viewed the land on which the trailers were situated – a high area near shear cliffs - as part of their territory. Once the infant was back in their care, the tyrannosaurs proceeded to push the trailers, with Sarah and Ian inside, toward the aforementioned cliffs.

One trailer (the one containing Sarah and Ian) did go over the side, hanging to the second by a mere thread of accordion passageway, before Thorne managed to frighten the dinosaurs off and hook a cable between his jeep and the undercarriage of the trailers. He climbed down to help his companions to safety. Sarah made the climb from the hanging trailer to the top of the cliffs, then pulled up Ian, who was seriously injured, and Thorne using a nylon rope. When Thorne seemed about to fall, she hauled him the rest of the way by his hair.

The incident illustrates Sarah's survival instinct and physical strength, as well as the nightmare situations she has already endured.

14. Who is your character's next-of-kin?

Gerry Harding, father
Donna Harding, mother
Jessica Harding, half-sister

15. Tell us about the most important relationship your character has.

Sarah really isn't that close with anyone. She works with only one other person in Africa (a driver). Her family is all estranged - her sister claimed in 1993 that she hadn't spoke to her father in a year, and by Sarah's own account, her relationship with her mother was poor. Her friends only call her for professional reasons. Her closest romantic relationship would be with Ian Malcolm, but even then, they drifted apart when she went to Africa, and he sent her a birthday card several months late.

It could be argued that Sarah's relationship with her sister is important, but there's no canon evidence to show that they ever spent any amount of time together.

16. What else should we know about your character that might recommend them to the position?

For all her issues with working with others, I think this could be a good learning experience for her, and a good opportunity for others in the game to deal with someone who will challenge them to prove themselves.

17. What is your character's Fatemark? N/A

18. Please provide two writing samples showing us your ability to roleplay.
